Many cat parents have decided to feed their cats homemade diets. BUT BEWARE! Many recipes, even those developed by a veterinarian, are lacking nutrients cats need. Some recipes even contain ingredients that are toxic to cats.
A recent study by UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine found that 40% of the 114 recipes evaluated didn’t give feeding instructions, and the remaining recipes were unclear or lacked detail. Of the recipes that provided enough information for computer nutritional analysis, NONE provided all the essential nutrients for adult cats.
If you want to feed your cat a homemade diet, please check with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist first.
